In the community of wireless networks, a new transmission technique has received great attention of late. This is (wireless) cooperative communication. It brings the power of multiple-antenna systems to bear upon the single-antenna multiple nodes. It is apt at the formation and exploitation of spatial diversity in a distributed manner. Thus, the technique can considerably increase radio capacity with a super-linear scalability. This paper describes a survey of current developments in this growing field, and presents a discussion on their affinity with the existing systems.
