Abstract

The use of virtual reality techniques to check out the positioning of the corrective optics to be installed in the Hubble Space Telescope is discussed. The basic optical and mechanical configuration of the telescope, and the optical bench, named the Costar (Corrective Optics, Space Telescope Axial Replacement), which will be deployed in the focal plane volume of the telescope, are described. The problems encountered in the virtual prototyping of Costar are examined
