Abstract

Topology preservation during training of Self-Organizing maps is a key issue to obtain a good quality model in process monitoring. In this paper, different existing indexes for topology preservation measurement are exposed and also an index proposed in a previous work is improved. The index is based on the smooth trajectory of the current process state projected over the output space under non abrupt changes of the values of the process variables.
