Wireless Sensor Networks are extensively used in various applications like automobiles, environment, satellite communications, forest and animal habitat, medical sensor applications, super market, etc. Application specific and generic protocols are being developed for various layers in WSN protocol stack. Localization is one of the main protocol in WSN to find the position of unknown sensor nodes. Localization process is initiated with position known beacon nodes and/or reference nodes. These nodes aid to locate unknown nodes and the process is repeated until all the nodes are localized. Traditional and fuzzy based localization techniques are used in WSN. In localization for range based varying parameters fuzzy based technique is used. This article explains various localization techniques with parametric estimation in WSNs. Various generic and soft computing based localization techniques are given with their performance issues.
