Abstract

An improved algorithm for the estimation of the box-dimension is used in spectral image analysis. Primarily, the image is represented in RGB space by the amorphous "cloud" of points S. Then, the interval version of box-counting algorithm is applied to estimate the box-dimension of the set S. The known method of box-counting is simplified down to the simple sign counting operation. The key of the algorithm are affine transformation from the world coordinate system to parametric one and renormalization using as elementary operations as binary dilatation and unit shift transformations. The effectiveness of the recursive algorithm is tested in a mathematically-modelled induced simulation.
