Abstract

This paper advocates the use of an optimized homotropic transformation structural element. Its use improves the sequential thinning procedure producing less coarse skeleton lines with a reduced number of thinning cycles. The employment of adaptive binarization is also discussed when the documents' images are not best quality. Experimental results are shown for both handwrite and hand printed documents' processing.
