Abstract

One of the major causes of failure of a software development project is the delay in its delivery. Among the major reasons for this delay is low productivity of software professionals involved in the development process. The aim of this paper is to identify and manage major factors having impact on the productivity and hence schedule of a software development project. Four major such factors are reliance on few key personnel, immature technology, lack of client support and lack of contact person's competence. With the help of Influence Diagram, existing databases and taking advantage of expert' views, a model has been developed on the basis of prioritization of these factors. This model can be used to predict the delay in delivery of the project due to the above mentioned factors and hence schedule overrun.
