Abstract

Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol is an enhancement of STP. However, same as STP, RSTP still has the problem of long convergence time when the root goes down. In this letter, a solution that was a backup VLAN for each servicing VLAN is proposed. When the root of a servicing VLAN goes down, all the switches will immediately use the backup VLAN to forward data. The solution is verified by actual implementation and experiments. The experimental results show that the solution could successfully provide nearly uninterrupted network service.
