Development of new weapons system for future war is increasingly becoming too costly and complicated. At the same time, the effectiveness of the new weapons system has to be verified and enhanced through computer simulation even before a physical prototype is completed. Due to this reason, modeling and simulation techniques are recently receiving a lot of attention Several S/W tools exist for simulating small-scale engagements, however, it is very difficult to model combat entities systematically and subsequently reuse them. To overcome these difficulties, this paper presents a modeling methodology for simulating small-scale engagements using the DEVS-formalism, which systematically classify and define combat entities. This paper also explains a DEVS-based framework for a small scale combat simulation.
