This paper presents a framework for combining Answer Set Programming and Prolog, as developed in the ASP-PROLOGsystem. The paper focuses on the development of a model-theoretical account for ASP-PROLOG. It also illustrates the use of ASP-PROLOG in several practical applications in knowledge representation and reasoning, common-sense reasoning, and planning.
