Abstract

Bandwidth variability and handoff of wireless communication may cause mobile transaction operations to be delayed. A shared data item that is locked by a mobile transaction could obstruct operations of other fixed host transaction from being executed. So the response time for fixed host transaction execution is lengthened because of the delayed transmission for mobile transaction operations. In this paper, we extend the two phase locking protocol for mobile databases to deal with this challenge. The objective of this adaptation is higher throughput for fixed host transaction in present of mobile transaction. Simulation studies of our protocol show a better performance than if we used standard two phase locking protocol.
