Abstract

Complex event processing requires events to be integrated from multiple sources. In heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks, this integration is performed at powerful gateway nodes, requiring continuous communication among sensor nodes and with gateway nodes. We propose to use semantic context-aware in-network processing for heterogeneous WSN. Our energy-based cost model shows under which circumstances in-network processing is advantageous for heterogenous networks. Reduced energy consumption will lead to extended network lifetime
