Abstract

Conventional means of querying a database for relevant information require some degree of knowledge about the nature and the structural representation of such information. The paper addresses the case where sufficient knowledge is not readily available a priori. A method for data exploration based on the refinement of graphs, which represent summarized views of the underlying data, is proposed and illustrated by a small example featuring relational data extracted from an Electronic Health Record. The method is based on Formal Concept Analysis, extended to the case of several many-valued formal contexts, one for each database table, with additional referential attributes.
