Abstract

A modern power system is highly interconnected, meshed and compact. A transmission outage could have a huge impact on the economy and society. Factors that make congestion management more difficult such as intra-regional congestion often affects interconnections; regions have not adapted to changes and difficult to align securing and pricing outcomes. This paper shows some results achieved in the course of FP7 project SEETSOC (South East European Transmission System Operators Challenges) in solving congestion management with nonlinear programming approach and considers how Locational Marginal Pricing could be used for congestion management.
