Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is now one of the most acknowledged paradigms to design and realize scalable ubiquitous systems. However, the emergence of various versatile service technologies (WS, UPnP, DPWS, OSGi, etc.) results in isolated technological islands, which cannot interoperate. In this position paper, we present a pragmatic approach to effectively address the dynamic composition of heterogeneous service-oriented systems. Our solution is based on the dynamic construction of so-called "proxy" services bridging between different service technologies. We illustrate our approach using existing UPnP devices dynamically integrated within a BPEL orchestration.
