Abstract

This paper proposes an analytical design method for a class of two-dimensional recursive digital filters with a shape specified in polar coordinates in the frequency plane. The design begins with an adequate 1D prototype filter, to which a frequency transformation is applied, which leads to a 2D filter with a desired shape. For each specific filter the design consists in finding the appropriate frequency transformation. Here we approach the design of two-directional filters. The resulted filters are efficient, of low complexity and high selectivity. Simulation results on a test image are finally provided, to show their capabilities in image filtering.
