Abstract

The INTERCHI workshop titled "Human-Computer Interaction Advances Derived from Real-World Experiences" began as a discussion of personal experiences in doing HCI (human-computer interaction) work in real-world settings. It concluded with discussion of some of the "tricks of the trade" for applying HCI in the real world and with suggestions for using the CHI and INTERACT conferences as vehicles of change for prompting more real-world applications, of HCI. The latter set of suggestions, we present as challenges to the INTERCHI and CHI communities.
