Abstract

With the growing number of smart phones, the positioning issue for location-based service (LBS) in cellular networks has got much more popular and important in recent years. This paper proposes a signal-aware fingerprinting-based positioning technique (SAFPPT) in cellular networks, which contains two positioning methods: (i) Continuously Measured Positioning Method (CMPM) and (ii) Stop-and-Measured Positioning Method (SMPM). To verify SAFPPT, we have the case study of implementing the aforementioned two positioning methods in the Android platform for the GSM networks and analyze accuracy using some experiments. Our experimental results show that: (i) the positioning accuracy of CMPM and SMPM are much higher than Google隆娄s 隆搂My Location隆篓, (ii) some parameters may affect the positioning accuracy of CMPM, e.g., the moving speed of a user and the number of sampling of the fingerprinting database, and (iii) the staying time of a user may affect the positioning accuracy of SMPM.
