Limited, non replaceable power supply to sensor nodes still remain the bottleneck for wireless sensor network applications. For many sensor network applications such as military surveillance, it is necessary to provide full sensing coverage to a security-sensitive area while at the same time minimize energy consumption and extend system lifetime by leveraging the redundant deployment of sensor nodes. In this paper we propose a new power aware sleep/duty scheduling scheme which maintains a full coverage of the region all the time and tries to increase the lifetime of the network by load balancing amongst the neighboring nodes.
