Abstract

B-spline surface skinning is widely used in geometric modeling. However, the traditional method may introduce wiggles in the final surface when the sectional curves are non-parallel. An algorithm for skinning non-parallel sectional curves is proposed in this paper to avoid wiggles. Firstly, the input curves are divided into multiple groups automatically, and each group will produce a B-spline surface. Then, the end tangents of each surface to be generated are estimated. Finally, surface skinning with end derivatives specified is applied to each group of curves. The adjacent B-spline surfaces are G1 continuous. Experimental results show that our algorithm could generate visually pleasing shape of the skinned surfaces.
