In this paper, we study the relationship between the QoS satisfaction and the handoff performance in cellular networks. The handoff drop rate is observed when changing allocated effective bandwidth and required packet loss rate, respectively. By proposing to use the token bucket model to calculate the effective bandwidth, a table of effective bandwidth and corresponding packet loss rate of VoIP and video streaming traffic is constructed for use in the simulation. Results show that the increase in the factor benefiting the QoS leads to the degradation of the handoff performance, i.e., the decrease in the packet loss rate increases the handoff drop rate.
