Abstract

A prediction-based simplified half pixel motion estimation algorithm is proposed to improve the search speed in half pixel motion estimation. It predicts the possible sub area and checks only three half pixel points in its possible sub area rather than eight half pixel points which are used in full half pixel search method (FHPS). Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has a significant speedup up to 62% over FHPS and preserves the image quality
