This paper presents a k-fault-tolerant checkpointing scheme for the reliable mobile agent system. The proposed scheme employs 2k observer agents which manage the checkpoints saved at the previously visiting sites. When the execution site fails, one of the observers recovers the agent from the checkpointed state so that the system can achieve a high degree of fault tolerance. To evaluate the performance, the proposed scheme and other replication schemes have been implemented on the Aglet system.
