Abstract

Neural networks (NNs) have been used to classify odor patterns and are showing promising results. In this paper we present four different models of NNs to implement pattern recognition system in artificial noses (ANs). These models were analyzed comparing the classification error in the test set and using a hypothesis test. The models investigated are probabilistic neural network and multi-layer perceptrons with and without temporal processing. We used a complex data base with 9 different classes for evaluation the classifiers.
