Abstract

The first part of the paper illustrates that at the roots of the chance discovery there is a process of disembodiment of mind that exhibits a new perspective on the cognitive mechanisms underling the emergence of scenarios productive for opportunities and risks. I will further illustrate the centrality to chance discoverability of the disembodiment of mind from the point of view of the cognitive interplay between internal and external representations. I consider this interplay critical in analyzing the relation between chance discovery and dynamical interactions with the environment. To the aim of explaining these relationships I conclude stressing the importance I attribute to the role of model-based and manipulative abduction, and of external representations and epistemic mediators.
