Abstract

Non-conforming finite elements are commonly used for app- roximating fourth-order eigenvalue problems in linear plate theory We derive error estimates for eigenpairs by nonconforming Zienkiewicz-type triangular elements We also propose a simple postprocessing method which improves the order of convergence of finite element eigenpairs Thus, an a posteriori analysis is presented by means of different triangular elements The technique applied is general It is illustrated and discussed by numerical results.
