Abstract

One of the latest technologies in the automotive industry is “X-by-Wire”, where mechanical components are replaced by electronic functions typically controlled by software. X-by-Wire impacts on the overall vehicle safety for example: by eliminating the steering column, the likelihood of it intruding into the passenger compartment during a collision decreases. X-by-Wire also provides the driver with convenient features such as variable steering ratio for ease of manoeuvrability.
