Abstract

Today, users have more and more mobile and fixed devices with communication capabilities including phones, PDAs, Laptops, PCs, TV sets, HiFi equipment, etc. As the various devices have different capabilities, users want to be able to switch to the most suitable device depending on the current environment and context. In order to support service continuity, this implies that the moving of active sessions between terminal/devices must be supported. This paper proposes an application-independent approach for session mobility between different devices/terminals. We use the IETF Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) as basis and extend it to be used as a generic means for session mobility. We implemented and evaluated the system in a multi-media environment.
