Many novel usage scenarios for protected digital content are emerging. Some of these are content transfer, by which users give away, borrow, or re-sell their protected content to other users. The transfer must abide by the rules defined by a rights issuer. The concept of authorized domain complicates the transfer operation. The main contribution of this paper is that we present a full-fledged design and implementation of the transfer operation for one of the major DRM standards, namely Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) DRM. The transfer operations include device compliance check, transfer between two devices (from two different domains), and license revocation within a domain. Our approach extends the user experience in using the DRM-protected digital content.
