The semantic annotation of the contents of Web resources is a required step in order to allow the Semantic Web vision to become a reality. In this paper we describe an approach to manual semantic annotation which tries to integrate both the semantic annotation task and the information retrieval task. Our approach exploits the information provided by Wikipedia pages and takes the form of a semantic Web portal, which allows a community of users to easily define and share annotations on Web resources.
