In this paper we give some pedagogical explanation of those situations where the use of redundant or almost-redundant information can improve the recognition rates of pattern recognition systems. Thus, the main purpose of this paper is to summarize some well-known situations in the pattern recognition field, where the use of “invented”, almost-redundant information, etc., can help to improve the results.
