Abstract

Telemedicine provides medical information and services using telecommunication technologies. It includes systems for remote clinical care and consultation through the use of electronic imaging equipment. In wireless telemedicine, broadband multimedia information that is a combination of video, audio and externally acquired images is transmitted. Emergency medicine helicopters take an important role at wireless telemedicine systems in providing emergency medical assistance for situations where either a ground ambulance cannot easily or quickly reach the scene or the patient needs to be repositioned at a distance where air transportation is most practical. This paper suggests a wireless telemedicine system for such an emergency medicine helicopter. It also proposes the use of Low Density Parity-Check (LDPC) coded OFDM to reduce the losses due to the transmission channel.
