Abstract

The strictly monotonic intensity profiles of ramp edges are mapped to a simple step function of intensity. Such a perfect sharpening of ramp edges can be used to define a differential operator nonlocally, in terms of which we can construct an edge detection algorithm to determine the edges of images effectively and adaptively to varying ramp widths.
