Abstract

This work deals with the incorporation of the Principle of Simplicity into model based reasoning (MBR) used for computer aided simulation of industrial processes. For this purpose, we have designed /developed a methodological framework under the form of an algorithmic procedure with 20 activity stages and 14 decision nodes. The functionality of this methodology has been indicated/supported by means of a case example referring to autohydrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass to glucose. The combined independent variable used for representing the Principle of Simplicity was the 'Severity Factor' estimated in a continuous mode by means of a SCADA control system, while serving also as a process intensification index.
