Abstract

Creativity and innovation is a major contributor towards organizational change, growth and development. To determine the level of creativity of students in Malaysia, the country needs an instrument that can be applied in the local context. The creativity and innovation instrument that is currently in the development process consists of five constructs. This study aims to determine the reliability and validity of the instrument, as well as the existence of DIF in its items. The sample consists of 291 students from a local public higher learning institution. The instrument is comprised of 180 Likert-scale items, 72 dichotomous items and 23 partial credit items. The findings showed that the item reliability is good, while person reliability needs improvement. 24 items detected GDIF, and 30 items detected DIF based on race. The elements analyzed in this study are used to enhance the development of the creativity and innovation instrument that incorporates the characteristics of the Malaysian context in order to move towards a more developed and progressive nation.
