Wireless sensor networks are widely used in many applications such as environment monitoring, intelligent transportation system (ITS) and health care monitoring. In wireless sensor networks, a large number of sensor nodes are deployed without infrastructure in an ad-hoc manner. Therefore, we focus on the existing ad-hoc routing protocol named AODV which is widely applied in wireless sensor networks. This paper proposes the method to improve the performance of the local repair mechanism in AODV. We found that our mechanism gives the performance improvement varying from 20 to 36%. In addition, the routing overhead in term of dropped packet is better than the original AODV. The number of CBR drop and the energy usage in the network are also reported and analyzed in this paper.
