Abstract

We present an image compression scheme ModLVQ, which is based on set partitioning in hierarchical trees (SPIHT) and includes a modified lattice vector codebook and more effective timing of the vector coding. The experimental results are encouraging, especially on busy images (which are more difficult to compress) and complex portions of other images both numerically and subjectively
