Abstract

This paper introduces a new approach for the digital design education in architecture. In several courses called Digitale Methoden 2 over the past two years students have been asked to deal simultaneously with two major topics: understanding information visualization and processing social interaction. This helps to enhance their design capabilities as well as learning to deal with complex data and space-sociological phenomena. The underlying questions for our research were: Could the development of individual, digital visualization methods extend or replace analogue pre-design processes for investigating and understanding urban spaces? Is it possible to create artistic applications as a result of the previous 'measurements' to solve space sociological problems?
