Abstract

In this paper we discuss the application of federation techniques for virtual enterprises. Virtual enterprises are a kind of cooperation between independent companies with a common goal. Requirements to an integrating information system are presented. We describe the integration of local information systems by a federated database system (FDBS) and discuss how an FDBS can meet the requirements. Additionally we compare different approaches by an estimation of benefits.
