Abstract

This paper describes a project to build a common set of Ada bindings to the Compartmented Mode Workstation (CMW) operating system. The paper discusses various design alternatives for creating these bindings. An object-oriented CMW model is described together with an object-oriented common Ada-CMW interface specification. A two-layered design solution is presented and its merits and demerits are discussed. Issues relating to the development of these bindings including testing, Ada 83 vs. Ada 9X issues, and portability are described and some of the ways to handle these issues are discussed.
