Abstract

A general filter is presented for nonlinear distributed parameter systems having an arbitrary number of moving boundaries. The filter is capable of including both volume and boundary process noise as well as measurement errors. A large number of potential applications of the results, ranging from the estimation of the extent of crude oil spills to metallurgical solidification problems, are discussed.
