Abstract

Controller design and tuning are mostly aimed at minimization of the variance of the error signal. In many situations, however, one is more interested in keeping this signal within some (safety or quality) limits as long as possible. Using the classical Wiener filter theory, a controller design is presented that minimizes the expected number of crossings per unit time of some specified level. Results obtained by simulation are included.
