A computer control strategy for an operating metallurgical process is described in this paper. A real process is modelled by a set of stochastic differential equations with state-dependent noise, and a practical non-linear filter is developed for the estimation of the model parameters and the state variables. A separation principle is invoked and a sub-optimal control strategy is implemented. Operating experience has shown that the estimation and control algorithms are effective.
