Abstract

Observability of a class of mixed distributed and lumped parameter systems with respect to physically realizable measurements is studied. Measurements are made either on the lumped subsystem or at interior points of the spatial domain. In both cases algebraic observability conditions are determined and the results applied to a transportation lag system.
