Abstract

Interprocess communications schemes in functionally distributed systems are proposed and described. The schemes are based on the concept of links, which are generalizations of communication paths, common buffers, semaphores and event variables. Message-oriented uniform interprocess communications are facilitated by links. They also provide a convenient means for call by function. Three different levels of descriptive power are proposed that can serve as the bases of further modifications. High reliability and flexibility are provided through the implementation of a protection mechanism.
