The open document architecture (ODA) provides a format for document interchange within open systems which is independent of any particular communication service. Within the BERKOM teleservices, ODA is used as a component of multimedia mail messages as well as a base for joint editing. The paper begins with after a brief introduction of the teleservices. The main part of the paper describes the architecture of an ODA editor which can be used in conjunction with these teleservices. Although the base editor provides full ODA functionality, it can be automatically restricted to subsets by means of document application profiles. Finally, an overview is given of future editor developments.
