Abstract

We present and discuss detailed measurements of TCP in the European ATM Pilot. In this wide area ATM network, the traffic contract is enforced by a Usage Parameter Control (UPC) mechanism. We show that when the ATM level traffic was compliant, TCP achieved a good utilization of the link. However, when the ATM level traffic was only almost compliant, the TCP throughput almost collapsed.
