Process control theory has traditionally been divided into two branches: continuous domain and discrete domain. Each of these two branches has its own set of tools and techniques. It may, however, prove interesting to examine the commonalities between the two classes of control. Besides proposing some basic terminology for sequential control, this paper presents a recent approach to sequential control and highlights its equivalence with certain notions of continuous control theory.
