Abstract

Queuing models provide a useful tool for studying the behavior of dynamic, stochastic service systems. In the case of manufacturing systems, though, the performance measures of interest are not necessarily those addressed by classical queuing theory. In particular, there is no classical model for analyzing performance measures which are functions of due-dates. We present here a technique for modelling due-dates in a classical queuing framework, and extend certain classical and recent results to the analysis of tardiness and other due-date-based measures.
