Abstract

This paper is an attempt to create a model of the social behavior of individuals. In particular, the concept of externalities in economics is put into broader perspective with the help of a resource exchange paradigm from psychology. Socially acceptable patterns will be used as behavior norms. Applications to personal exchange and energy/environment decisions are discussed but not formally specified here. The tentative conclusion is that there are several activities potentially undertaken by individuals and groups that can cause great benefit at little cost. A glossary is included to describe some basic building blocks.
